You can probably spend days reading past posts on this subject. Spend some time researching it to form your own views and needs. Youtube may be a place to see them in action.
There are some deals out there, but with the season almost over for me,to buy now means I could possibly lose up to 10 months of warranty before I have a chance to use it.

As mentioned research here and on other sites.  There are a TON of threads discussing this.  Bottom line any flasher you buy you will love.  Any flasher you buy will increase your catch dramatically.  Once you fish with one you will never leave home without it.

The only feature I would be sure you have, no matter the brand, is zoom.  Also make sure which ever you get satisfies the depth you plan to fish.  Some finders only go to 60' some to 300'.

You could get caught up for days with people's chevy vs ford argument but the brand will matter not when you hit the ice with it.

I have had Humminbird,Vexilar and now a Marcum. I just got the Marcum LX 7 and can already see it is got to be the easiest unit I have ever used. You can buy it right now from Reeds for $599 thats $100 off the reg price. They are all good units. It is all in what you are looking for. I'm the knid of a guy that has to have the newest equipment out there. You can buy a VX 1 or a FL 8 and pretty much do the same as more expensive unit. Where the expensive units shine is in all the settings and options. With all that said this is the time to buy even though you will lose some warranty time. You can find deals out there and save some big money and buy a extended warranty and still be dollars ahead of the game.
 Good Luck!

If you want to buy from a Canadian supplier try:

I found this add after I ordered from Reed's.  Still waiting for mine  to clear customs, mail, etc. (7 days).
Stay safe  ....    Tom

Don't buy the showdown, I had 2 both turds, I have a 8 year old vexilar fl-20 still going strong, excellent flasher, I also have a marcum lx3tc also a very nice unit, I like both equally,  the best deal around is the humminbird ice 35, dual beam, huge display all at 300 bucks.  If you fish outside mostly get a hooded screen, that eliminates the humminbirds, and the fl20, so the lx marcums are great outside, as well as the vexilar fl-18.

Read all the posts on issues with the lx7 before you go ahead and get one, I would be afraid, at least for now.  Even the one that they have at my favorite tackle shop is a turd and wont even turn on.  You will get alot of "mines ok" but there are alot that are not.....good luck

Can't go wrong with a vx-1, or an fl-18. good units, will last you a lifetime. not super expensive either.

Go to the electronics section on IS and read all the reviews. Everyone has an opinion and some of them are like body parts and smell bad. Then go somewhere and look at them side by side and see what you like and dislike about a unit. I've been with and have had them all. They all work just learn to use it right and had how to adjust for where your fishing.

Thank you Lord for thinkin bout me. I'm alive and doin fine!!!!!!
