I think it might be just about all over for shacks on the South side of the lake.

I am just making sure it is worth the drive, atleast being able to fish.. My girlfriend lives in Rochester so it is close by makes things a  little easier when taking her out.

I usually fish Newfound.

Next year if you fish Newfound, give out a holler to the Circus on the Motorola radio channel 5.5.

Eric,
what happened to you on saturday was looking forward to seeing you.

The ice was great all the way past Sandy...there is a crack, it was about 6" wide when we were there on Saturday, easy to cross as the ice was very solid on both sides of it, we had 11-12" where me and Big Jim fished. We were the furthest out that day.

Scott,

I ended up getting bailed on by everyone because of the forecasted weather and I had brought my truck to the shop the day before (Friday) and it took forever so my gf was a little upset that I hadnt been around so I decided to just say the heck with it since I would have gotten into it with her and everyone was scared of a little rain haha... I was bumming that I couldnt make it I had everything loaded in my truck too  :-\   ...Looks like this weekend she is feeling better so I got my partner in crime and I think I may meet up with a fellow shanty member for some fishin. This will probably be my last trip out this yr so hopefully we can hook up for some salmon and bows come spring time (cant wait) I will be in NY the 25-29TH of April maybe we can catch some steel together

Scott, he said 25-29TH of APRIL...not march.

Cold, you might want to look into going a little earlier this year if you are going for steelies. April will be good, end of April not to sure on that this year as no snow/melt, warm water, river warmer than normal etc.

That is a good point, They get a little more snow than we do though so I am hoping it is a huge issue.. Last yr we went the first few days of April and killed it I may have to look into going a couple weeks earlier. Now you got me nervous, I had a terrible trip In Jan didnt land one fish and hooked up maybe 2 time legitimately for like 10 seconds haha

Eric,
They are running strong right now. Ryan is probably right, we adjusted our dates based on whats going on out there right now. They do not have the snow pack at all this year, been talking to SNAGGER out there and he is saying there is not a lot of snow on the hill to fill the Res. I had a crappy trip on November and im really hoping to make up for it in 2 weeks.

Hey do you guys go just on your own on the rivers or do you have a guide? Sounds like something that would be fun but don't know the first thing about it

CJ

been going up for a few years now so we "know" where to fish haha also my dads buddy has been going up for 20 yrs a few times each year and has taught me alot.. You are more than welcome to come up with me and my buddies anytime its a fun time we walk to the river from the lodge and there is a bar in walking distance aswell... These fish are like no other you truely get spoiled out there. I highly recommend it to anyone, that is where I learned to fly fish

Is it fly fishing only or spinning as well? I've been trolling on the big lake but have always wanted to get out there first thing in the spring for some steelies. Is is worth getting a guide the first couple times out?

get a guide for your first trip or go with someone who is seasoned.

A guide will show you all the holes, presentation, what not to do etc, you can get years of knowledge in 1 trip that way. Or bring a friend who knows the area and learn from him. Drift boat guides run about $300 for the day.

Is Salmon Stalker the name of your boat too?
