Summer spearing/Bow fishing
« on: Feb 29, 2012, 11:35 AM »
Well winters about over... Wondering if anyone plans on doing any summer spearing for carp or bow fishing? Ive tried spearing a few times and have had some buddies try the bow fishing but I havnt tried it myself. I'm sure it would be a blast.

You read my mind Sommy I just bought my first bow reel (got the best I could find $80  :-\ ) and a bow from a yard sale in excellent condition for $20 now I just need a few arrows. Bow fishing never really peaked my interest but I HATE summer just because there is not allot of out door stuff to do and the heat during the day is horrible so I figure I can use up the night time bow fishing and feed my garden at the same time  ;D I was also thinking of trying sucker spearing in the creeks but I'm not using my pike spear so I'll use an old 5 tine that I have and screw it on to a broom handle.

Bow fishing is a RIOT!

Anchored these 2 slobs about 10 minutes apart last spring.  My 2 best ever.

Biggest was 44" and 43 lbs.

Smaller fish was 39" and 37 lbs.

All my neighbors love me.  Their gardens have some insanely good fertilization :).

Wow Jason those are 2 big a$$ piggies. I have a 160ft by 70ft garden that need some extra nutrients and I'm thinking carp is the cure. I started growing giant pumpkins last year and i think those things real take allot from the soil  :-\

I have 2 compound bows set up and one back up bow. I'm going to set up one of my recurves this year. I work in bay city so i drive by the Saginaw Bay everyday, in the spring I stop for a few hours after work. My Dad lives on the Bay and I've been bow fishing since I was a kid. You can wade after schools of carp for miles before you hit deep water. Twice the boat wouldn't move because of the weight of the fish pinned it to the bottom, but we don't use the much as the water is even lower now. I use custom arrows from Bay Archery in Essexville.

I fish low tech.  Daylight in a rowboat or canoe (always fun standing in a 10 foot canoe and drilling carp).

I probally fish 50 percent of time from land.  I either put the carp in a JetSled or Wheelbarrow as I go.

I hate dealing with lights, generators, bugs, etc.
