Ice Fishing in my new home...
« on: Feb 20, 2012, 09:18 AM »
...Colorado!  I'm moving out to Colorado from Massachusetts in June, and I thought I'd give Chatfield a try yesterday.  I asked the guy at the bait shop where I could target Bass in Chatfield, and he looked at me like I was crazy!  Doesn't anyone go after bass in Colorado?

Anyway, bought some shiners and set up one tip-up (we can use FIVE out in Mass) and started jigging as well.  Twelve inches of solid ice in the Catfish flats area.  Although I was targeting bass, of course I only managed one nice rainbow on a glow green Northland jig with waxie, and had a great time on the ice for a few hours.

NO takers on the shiner tip-up -- any suggestions for bass spots on Chaty?   :-\  Overall, looking forward to learning more about my new home state, and excited to explore Colorado waters!  I've heard about Elevenmile (of course) and many other Mountain lakes -- and I hope to meet many of you out on the ice!

Flags up, gentlemen!
Nate

One of my hand-crafted Indian Hill Ice Traps from Massachusetts -- anyone want one?  I can only use TWO out here, lol!

You must fish the humps out from the tower for bass.

Well,  if you are PATIENT.... when open water season comes....  you'll catch plenty of Smallies out at Chatty.  Remember that they make really TASTY fillets!   ;)

Welcome. Chatfield is tough to target smallies on in the winter. Atleast one of the rainbows cooperated.
