Bee, that's a good tip.

A couple of years ago the holes were getting big.  I mentioned it to a couple of dudes that walked past me on their way into deeper water.  They dismissed both me and my warning.  (There was a light covering of snow).

Then 2 minutes later one of them stepped in a hole and went through to his crotch.  He thought he was going in all the way and screamed and cried and kicked like a baby.   With one pant leg soaked, he cursed, cried the they both left.  As they both walked by I asked, "Gosh, did you step in a hole?"  It was funny as hell to watch it all go down.

Absolutely not funny for the little ones, but a little funny for the now-it-alls.   ;D

Drilled some holes last year on opening day with a 10 inch auger. went out a couple days later and they were even bigger. I was sounding a hole and my buddies lab puppy was accompanying me. looked away and looked back, all i saw was rippling water and no baxter. dove in to my arm and came up with a cold wet puppy by the ear.
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

He sat in my chair wrapped up in our jackets for the rest of the day. Funny, he did that for the rest of the season. At least my GSD protects my traps instead of stealing my seat. Nobody steals my flags, ruger is on it!

Filling an openhole could be a bad thing. It makes it a lot less visible and it may not freeze overbefore someone steps there.

Had to move the shack today,  there were some open holes around the outside of it where water had dripped off the roof onto the ice.
