hegben lake

I went to Hegben by the dam. No evidence of any fishing. Started fishing at 11 and did great right off. No stores had maggots so I had to use worms. Fish were rainbows and a bit smaller than normal...18 19 in class. Bites were at 10-12 ft in 31 ft of water. The snow has slush under and is hard to walk. The ice was 18 in froze under the slop. Fishing died off at 1. The weather front was coming in so the barometric pressure and the wind changed. I managed a limit and lost 3 fish. A few other bites while I was playing a fish. Never saw another person. I used scented cooked rice and corn as chum along with glow scent to set up a scent column. The trout fought really hard. I am also thinking the Kirkwood area near the narrow cut may be worth a try. Good luck boys!

Haha, Thats great! I fished there (at the dam) from 8-9 this morning, but you couldn't even tell I was there! Caught 5 fish in that time, all bows too. I had to get back to town for my kids b-ball, Snowed about 16" today in town and while I was at the dam it only snowed about an inch. There are maggots at Kirkwood Resort, for future reference( I know nobody was around today ;))and the store is not open tomorrow, but mealys seem to work good too.

Anyone ever lose a fish on top of the ice? I did for about ten minutes..... tried to get him back down the hole but when he pumped, he went horizontal and got between the crust and ice. Had to break out about ten foot circle of crust before I found him. He was fine and sent him on his way.  :) I covered my hole with snow so i don't have to drag the auger out, but thinking of taking one of the boys tommorrow. That's probably why there was no sign of my activity. Maybe we'll see you out there message me if you want my 2 cents on other areas of the lake. Not sure what you mean by "narrow cut", but the Narrows by Yellowstone Holiday are always pretty good. And I know the Kirkwood area pretty good too.
