Anyone headed to the Blue Mesa Saturday?
« on: Feb 08, 2012, 07:44 PM »
I will be over there again looking for some more lunch. I just revived my taste for Pink meat Trout. Cooked me up some today again. I also have read that 4 oz of any fresh water fish = 1 oz of fish oil. Heck I have been buying the pills. I am hoping the fish are biting a little better than they have been. It has been pretty slow but I guess that is expected this time of year. I also think by March it will pick up.

Happy Fishing to all.

I will be headed that way tomorrow from Bozeman...will be around blue mesa       so was thinking about that. Or somewhere else? Heard there was a lot close by. I'd definitely like to hook up with some local knowledge while I'm there since ill be moving there soon. Ive got full gear except a sonar. What are you fishing for? Also how thick is the ice around there? Ive got a hand auger so around 20 in is my max.

Not sure what you mean by the is a lot close by?

I fish for Lake trout and Rainbows/Browns.  If you want to get into the Lake trout eating size I would head to the Dry Creek area. The fish are around the 18-20" size in abundance there. As for bigger ones I haven't heard of anyone catching any this year but a lot of the people that do don't let you know where they are. I would try for 80-100 FOW and use a big piece of sucker if you want to catch a big one.

Ice is anywhere from 4-20" depending where you go. If you go west of the Elk Creek Marina you will have very thin ice and I don't recommend it.

Taylor reservoir is another place. If you like good eating Brookies the Tomachi Creek has a lot of them. San Cristobal Reservoir is a little further and has Lake trout also. It is up by Lake City.

Hey Lefty

A couple buddies and I are heading up to Blue for President's Day weekend.  How has the fishing been?  Besides not hearing about lunkers, how's the bite been for the average lakers?  Browns still producing up by the bridge?

Thanks!

I never made it out last week.My wife is having some problems and I need to be around for her. I might make it out this weekend but not for sure.

The Lakers are fishing well in the Dry Creek area I have heard.  There has been weather in and out the last week and this weekend it should be a better fishing weekend. Look for Browns in the 25-30 FOW and close to 14 near the bridge. If you are looking for bigger Lakers I would try 80 Plus ft. with a big chunk of bait.

Thanks Lefty.  I've never fished the Dry Creek area before, only Iola, the bridge area and the fishermen access on the north shore opposite Iola.  We'll have a sled so we'll have mobility - a first for us.  Maybe we'll run into you out there.  Hope that your wife is doing better.  Thanks for offering your advice as well.  I definitely plan to give deeper water a shot.  Will report on Monday.
