Strikemaster cutting issue
« on: Jan 30, 2012, 11:57 AM »
So I have an 8" strikemaster lazer mag, and the last few times I've gone out the first half dozen holes or so cut really well, like butter.  Then everything after that is a struggle, have to put a lot of down pressure on it to cut.  The blades are new and like I said the first holes cut good so I don't think its that.  Its not an ice up problem b/c we kept track this last time and the blades never iced up, and I don't believe its an angle thing b/c like I said the first holes cut good everytime.

Anyone have this issue, or have any thoughts?

Any ice on the back side of the fluting and blades?
Any ice around the cutting point where it sticks out of the center of the fluting?
I give the back side of my fluting a couple of taps with my extension or use the chisel on my scoop to remove any build up there when mine stops cutting like that and it seems to do the trick.

Yeah sure sounds like it's icing up.

Thanks guy's I'll keep a better eye on it this weekend.  I had another guy tell me to spray the blades with cooking oil and this will supposively stop any icing up.  I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Simple PAM is probably what he was referrring to.  You could wax it too, but the idea is to keep it high and dry between holes.

i have the same problem.  ANd i kept it in my house to make sure all the ice was melted off it and it still didn't cut good.  Any suggestions??

shadylane says first holes cut good every time then it starts to cut poorly.  This seems pretty obvious.

luva, If yours cuts poorly all the time then I'd look at the blades.

Just a little bit of sand/grit in the ice can dull your blades in a hurry.

or if you bang your blades on the ice hard, you can screw them up in a hurry.
