Swinging Bridges Reservoir
« on: Jan 30, 2012, 06:20 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has info on access Swinging Bridges Reservoir and where to fish it. The Alliance website says it's access sites are open but they were chained up last week. I haven't fished Sullivan County waters in about 40 years but the warm weather is forcing me to go north from the Westchester/Putnam reservoirs. Any suggestions as where to go tomorrow instead of Swinging Bridges?

The public launch/parking area gets chained because of idiots who drive their vehicles out on the ice. You are legal to enter there but the signs say no parking along the road. There are two Marinas but I don't know if you can enter or park at either one of them. Most guys who do fish SB have friends who own homes and allow them access.

I am not too sure about how safe the ice might be after this week. I did see a couple guys fishing last week but the weather has been unbelievably warm and looks like even warmer this week. White Lake may be an option but again, not too sure how safe any of the ice is right now.
If I agreed with you we would both be wrong!

Thanks for getting back.

I was on it on 1/20. We parked by in a Marina and did well with smaller crappie and got big kicks by throwing shorts to a bald eagle. I actually got it on my Iphone. I'm not sure how to put it up here; it's worth a view. It's on Youtube-Feeding a Bald Eagle While Ice fishing. There was about 6 inches of good ice then. My buddy went yesterday; he said the edges were cruddy but once on, the ice was fine. Hope to be up that way tomorrow.
