Mansfield & Coventry
« on: Jan 26, 2012, 12:59 PM »
I checked Mansfield today and the report is not good. lots of open water south of the parking lot and "sketchy" conditions off the boat launch. With the expected rain for the next 24 hours and it's effect on the rivers that feed the water body, Mt. Hope, Fenton & Natchaug rivers and the 10 day temperature forecast of highs at or above 40 will combine to preclude ice fishing there for at least the next two weeks and possibly for the season unless we get some real cold weather for at least a week straight in mid February. Coventry had some recreational activities and a little fishing on a cove over the weekend but the main water body was unsafe and obviously it's already poor condition will suffer from the upcoming rain and warm weather. I think northeastern ct waters are going to be mainly unfishable on the ice unless we have a drastic weather change for the last three weeks of February.
