Where is winter?
« on: Jan 25, 2012, 02:39 PM »
Is it over already? :P   Did it ever start? ???

I fish at 8,000+ feet and we have 10" of ice but the lake is starting to open up from wind and warm air. (40-50 degrees).  This is quite strange.  This lake usually has a over a foot of ice and keeps it until mid-march.

I feel lucky living in Wyoming... I've been ice fishing since Dec. 13th.  Seems really odd that the ice season could be potentially wrapping up soon.  Forecast is for 45 degree temps and winds up to 50mph for the next week.  No cloud cover.  I have a feeling the open spots on my lake will at least double in size and things will be in pretty bad shape even if it get super cold after that. :-\

Where is winter?
Alive and well in northern WI.
I had to snowblow the driveway yesterday evening after work after I got stuck yesterday morning getting out of the driveway. I feel for you guys, but honestly we have had a fairly average winter here so far. A little mild but nothing to melt the ice, we can't even hardly get the roads down to bare pavement. If it does get above freezing it's only for a couple of hours then back down again.. I imagine we will be ice fishing into April again, 13"+ ice on most lakes now. Trucks driving on all the lakes, snowmobiles out all over.

Sounds like Wisconsin is the place to be.

There are some lakes in Wyoming w/ 20" of ice.  Bet it will be there till mid march.  The SE portion of the state is hurting though.

We haven't had a full week below freezing, only one or two nights of single digits. No below zero at all.

Subject: Winter

Winter has been cancelled this year due to lack of interest from the majority of people.

My apologies to the minute minority that are interested.

LOL I love the memo!  To say NJ is hurting is an understatement, we never really had anything to begin with 4-5 at most for a weekend, temps in the 40's night time temps are in the high teens at best here and there but mostly 20's and 30's.

I have plenty of winter here in Colorado. I am heading out tomorrow to search for lake trout. It is going to be a beautiful 38 Degrees with mostly sunny skies and 14-20" of ice. My first trip this year was on the 10th of November and I had 5" of ice then. Of course that was at 10K feet.
