Jig/Spoon Storage
« on: Jan 23, 2012, 05:21 PM »
I'm looking at getting a unit for jig/spoon storage.  I have noticed that with the regular Plano boxes (way too overstuffed) my jigs are getting too banged up.  At $7 a jigging spoon nowadays thats just not gonna fly.

Anybody have any suggestions for storing jigs, spoons, and jigging raps?  Or do I just need to invest in a couple more standard boxes and separate everything?

I buy Plano Fly boxes. They have foam slots to hang everything and they have clear lids so I just set them out in the sun and the jigs are ready to glow when you put a new jig on. And they are only 10.00 a piece.

I look at it like this. Us fisherman buy alot of jigs etc that we dont need  ::). Your not going to need all your jigs for a given day. I store all my jigs on foam cutouts at home in a large plano box. I select the ones I want that day and throw them in a small jig box for the day. For me the smallest clam jig box is perfect! I can store about 40 small jigs on one side and about 12 or so small spoons on the other. Still way more than you really need for the day lol. The side with the spoons doesnt have the foam backing but just the slots with a clear plastic lid that pops open. I just fish for panfish though so dont need larger spoons. The bigger spoons wont fit. I like this clam jig box alot!

For all my smaller jigs I made a couple boxes like the Clam Ice Armor boxes.  Just small boxes I had around, cut all the dividers out and glued foam in.

For anything larger or with multiple hooks that are tough to secure I hang them in a spinner bait box.   The one I carry is about 8"Lx4"Wx4-1/2 - 5" deep.  I has 4 dividers in it, with 10 or 12 notches per divider. As TType mentioned, I can't fit everything into the one box, but it lets me take 20-40 (depending on size..) spoons/jigs/whatever without them getting chipped and tangled!

I use Hornaday sabot cases .form inside with holes for holding sabots ... work great for jigs
