Nils master power auger problem??
« on: Jan 18, 2012, 03:07 PM »
I used my Nils 8 inch power auger last weekend for the first time . But when i went to drill the hole , it had a hard time biting into the ice to get started , and when i did get started , it would drill the hole almost on a 45 degree angle. I have had this auger for a few years now and i absolutely love it.. i would not buy a different auger.
i have always maintained the auger very well . Do you think the bottom head on the Bit is tweaked? any help would be great

Thanks
Capt: Joe

Blades are dull.  I send mine out every other season to get sharpened.
The address is

Small Engine Repair
180 Hosner Rd
Ashby, MA 01431

It is $20 plus shipping.  Quick turn around and a lot cheaper than buying a new head.

I would have the blades checked out.  In my area, I have a local shop, in Newport, do mine.  F&M, but there has to be someone, who sharpen's, Auger blades, in the Rutland area?  Check around, at the your local Bait Shop, or other Fishermen, on the ice, while fishing. ;D

i'll report back on the results of this. I had bobs sharpen all do a set of nils blades for me and just got them back today. WHen the current set gets dull, I'll put them on and tell how they did. I have three sets of blades for the nils now. If I had to pick one thing I don't like, it's that they either cut or don't. When they get dull, you can't punch more than 2 inches into the ice. I still don't think I would even buy anything else. Just keep and extra sharp set and your good!

REPORT: Bobs sharpall: epic fail on nils head. Going to have to send them to frank deluca. Was hoping something local and easy would work, however this is not the case.
