ANY ICE ON MATTAWA?
« on: Jan 19, 2012, 08:06 AM »
Just looking for some thickness numbers on ponds and lakes in western mass...
It's like tailgating with the possibility of catching a fish!

I haven't been out to Athol in a while. I would imagine with the temps that it has ice on it. How thick, I can't say. Hopefully someone from that area can give us some better info. Good lake.
Cheers,

Pete

Unfortunately Athols weather has been the same as Belchertowns and Metacomet still has open water.  I just don't want to drive 40 mins to be disappointed.

5 inches last sunday. Didnt get a flag, fished from first light till noon. They only put in about 10 salmon this year, I hear they had about 100 salmon for the entire state. No flagg mattawa lived up to its name last sunday. About 5 others guys had the same luck. If you go...hope you get a flagg!!!!! ;D

My backyard? Metacomet??? Stopped by after work yesterday did not look good, swung over to arcadia, looked shaky.  I started to walk out and it seemed safe but I didn't have my auger to drill any test holes and no one was around so I didn't want to get to far off shore.  Have a friend with a place on Norwich pond in Huntington, never been there so I may try it this weekend, otherwise I'm sure we'll be at Arcadia.

I guess it's a possibility that there was close to five on the shore but the middle was wide open Wednesday afternoon,  I'm a risk taker but I'm not a fan of swimming in January.
