Cheshire Lake
« on: Jan 22, 2012, 05:35 PM »
I fished Cheshire Lake (the northern third of 1st Lake) with my older daughter today.

Got on the ice around 11 AM and set up by around 11:45 AM.  Sunny, blue skies, mid 20's, with about 8 to 10 inches of ice.  There were lots of people out there, although most of them left by 2 PM or so to catch the Patriots game.

The action was OK but not great.  We had a fair number of glags between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM, and then seemed to slow down for us.    Over the course of the day, we each caught a bass in the 1 & 1/2 to 2 pound range, and landed a few small pickerel, plus there were a few that got away.

The girlfried of the guy just to the south of us caught a nice perch the size of a Pringles can.

On the way out, we met a college age kid was telling me there might be an aurora borealis visible around here tonight. It would be neat if there is - - I've never seen one.  (I understand they're pretty rare this far south).

A buddy of mine and his son further to the south (closer to the islands) reported catching a lot of small pike, as well as some pickerel.
