Big Trout / Whitefish Chain

I'm headed up to Big Trout in a week.  Anyone been out there recently?  We typically fish for lakers during the day on Trout, then venture out on Lower Whitefish late afternoon.

I've seen the pics of open water on the Brainerd dispatch a couple weeks ago.  How's the ice doing up there now?  Any snow cover?

at last report, there was still openwater in a few areas. very cold up here now, so we should be locked up by then! i had to cancel all my jan. bookings for the lake trout opener due to the lack of ice... no snow cover! be sure to pack the cleats!!

Any idea where the open water was at?  I know the channel to Lower from Big Trout is always open somewhat, just don't want to drive a wheeler over a patch that just iced over...  Thanks!

channel wa still open today!! cant beleive it!! i figured with the -0 temps at night it would have froze over slightly!! access at manhatten beach on big trout looks good, a bit of a heave, like normal! but things dont look bad out there!!
