Girlfriend's first time out on the ice.
« on: Dec 27, 2012, 07:35 AM »
I will be going out tomorrow and sat, taking the girlfriend with (should be interesting) and the pup. I would like to find a good perch/gill/pike lake so she can catch some small stuff to keep it interesting and still rig some tips for pike so she can have some fun with those as well. Safe ice required, if she goes in I am never getting her to go again haha. I know that's kinda specific but if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated. The game plan as of right now is to head to Gwinn area possibly E.B.?

Thanks guys.

go fish...there are good lakes in gwinn...but the bite can be alittle unpredictable for "girls first time out"if you really want steady action with perch/pike...try the gravel pit on big bay road just past phils 550 sore...on the right...the bigger pond...ice is good.bobbers down all day usually.get in the deepest you can...its only 10 ft deep in there..so 8 ft should be good.
i just know they will bite if i stay another hour.

I would agree with Bobber that the pit off 550 is the place to go if you want steady action, plus I have pulled some nice pike out off there well over 30 inches. Harlow lake is also a good place for lots of hammer handles and is easy to get out on.

She wanted to go out of town a bit so we went out to Greenwood. Had a great time, caught some eyes but were only out for about 3 hrs. Can't wait till I can get out do some more serious fishing soon.

For Eyes, I've caught them both left and right of the peninsula, 30-40 yards off shore, about 150 yds beyond the tip of the peninsula heading west.

I have only caught them on the left of the peninsula but I don't normally target eyes on E.B. One of my favorite lakes for panfish and pike though. If you get a couple buddies together and find the panfish then set tip ups further out for pike, you will normally have a blast. I was really surprised we got some eyes out of Greenwood, haven't caught too many out there on hardwater before.

Thanks for the info everyone and if anyone is ever bored and doesn't want to fish alone just let me know and I will try to make it out too. I have a shack and most equipment needed to fish with.

From Gwinn as well, we should hook up here soon, once the holidays subside and I can finaly finish up my hardside. Would be an honor. :)

My fiancee loves to fish, now that I got her hooked on it. The great part is I get to buy more stuff and she is happy instead of b***hing about the $$$. One of her favorite things to do is using the camera to watch the whitefish bite. Using the camera keeps us both entertained.

Changed my middle name to "You should have been here yesterday".         Remember it's called fishing, not catching.

Haha DB when ranting about "manly posts" maybe dial back on the exclamation points. Real world = Girlfriend coming with = more time on the ice. We went out yesterday and stayed out last night till about 12:30. Hiked a ways back on Greenwood and put some lines in. Kinda cloudy water and bite died off when dark hit but the weather alone made it worth it. A CO saw our car at about 10pm parked in the launch lot and hiked all the way out there cause he noticed our fire. Nice guy, chatted for a bit about fishing spots in the area and he cleared my license. You never know when your going to run into those guys. If I see you guys down in Gwinn I will say hey, always fun running into people on the ice and I am always ok with more fishing buddies.

Hey Pizzi, might have seen your shack on Engman the other day.  There are a few big red Eskimo shacks out there though.  I've got the Clam flipover, and Red Eskimo auger, If i big red eskimo, I'll be sure to say hello!
