Cleaning Fish on the Ice In Wisconsin?
« on: Dec 18, 2012, 08:06 PM »
Wondering if anyone knows the answer to my question?  On those days when my buddies and I are hitting the crappies good is it legal to clean some on the ice to pan fry them up as part of our day? My thinking is that if we keep the fish remains in a bucket or plastic to verify what we caught, count the consumed fish as part of our daily bag limit and transport the remains off the ice and properly dispose of them why wouldn't it be legal?

If any information one way or the other would be appreciated.

The guides up on the bay of green bay do it all the time, just as long as you are counting those fish eaten as part of your daily bag limit and you keep the skins you should be all right.

It is illegal : (in part)

• to deposit fish carcasses or parts, including entrails or other waste, into Wisconsin waters
or on the bank or shore of any water

• to transport fish subject to a length limit, unless you leave the skin and scales intact (on
the fish); the heads and tails can’t be removed unless the dressed fish or fillets meet the
minimum length limit.

You are fine as long as keep all the skins guts etc. in a garbage bag or bucket and they are still identifiable, and take them with you when you leave. They are still part of your daily limit and the skeletons better be in one piece and be of legal length.
