perch arnt illegal to use i u catch them in the same body of water and use them there ... and they were fishing 5 feet under the ice in a 100 ft of water the lake has alot of small perch in it and they are more easyer to cath than smelt in this lake just thought it was neat

I'm sure they work pretty good. I think one of my buddy's was using one cut up for cat fishing on champlain and the warden told him that it was illegal don't make sense, but it's not on the bait list. maybe some one on here knows.

Get a copy of the Vermont F&G regulation booklet and read the list on page 51 - It lists Yellow Perch as one of the legal baitfish as long as you catch it on hook and line and not in a minnow trap. It is listed second from the bottom, just above Rainbow Smelt as legal bait.

I had a RETIRED GAME WARDEN tell me once that a game warden will do whatever he has to do to get the conviction! Even wording the report how HE WANTS IT WROTE!

Lakers are pigs . They patrol the edges of bays , eating every thing . Sunfish , bass , perch, smelt , suckers  even hear they eat small salmon. My biggest laker(a ten pounder )had an 11 inch perch in it, and small bass ,And a few smelt  . I caught a trout last week with bass and Sunfish in it .

I tried to find the article, but no luck.  A year or two ago I read an article (believe it was In-Fisherman), that said Lake Trout do eat perch.  I guess they are on the menu primarily in the winter, b/c the trout can access parts of the lake that they can't in the summer (water is too warm).  Generally these parts are where the perch call home.
