Spirit lake this Saturday
« on: Jan 03, 2012, 01:18 PM »
I am planning a trip to spirit lake this weekend, and would like to know if anybody here would want to show us around and where to fish. That is if the ice is safe enough. We would be willing to pay you for your time. Would love to catch some walleye, and perch but we arent picky at all. All 3 of us have vexilars and plenty of gear. Any help would be great! Thanks guys.

marble beach seems to be a nice spot for walleye/perch. I seem to have luck at 14-16 feet pretty much strait out from the access area. I also hear Buffalo
Run has some decent fishing. It's just north of Marble Beach.
Gotta eat big to be big!

A few of us from the Belmond area are planning on heading over there Saturday as well.  Please keep us posted on the bite and conditions too.  Any help would be appreciated as well.

i was just there saturday, very nice to be on the ice.  The nw basin is still open, but plenty of fishable ice.  about 8 inches.  caught one keeper walleye east of cottonwood.  also a few small perch.  had 4 hr drive so didn't hit the hot times.  11-3 fished.  saw a large pike 30 plus inches check out my minnow, had quite a few looker perch and walleye.  love that place, headed back 14-15.

Anybody better be damn careful going anywhere near Cottonwood point as there was a large open water area in the vicinity of cottonwood running to jackson points. Just sayin!

yeah, i wouldn't advise going to cottonwood way too close to open water... east of there seemed very safe.

Ice fishing is not recommended on West Okoboji until ice conditions get better.
Ice fishing is not recommended on Big Spirit Lake. The ice is honey-combed and inconsistent throughout the lake. There is a section of open water from Big Stoney Point across to the north shoreline all the way to Mini-Wakan State Park. Also there are random open spots in the middle of the lake.

I'm a crazy SOB when it comes to ice fishing and I'm not planning on going this weekend! They have that tournament on Little Emerson this weekend too!

fished last fri sat fishing was extremely tuff with the wind and the fish..  3 guys 12 keeper perch and 2 or 3 northern the first day and im talkin all day...  Day 2 18 keeper perch 3-4 keeper eyes and 3 or 4 keeper northerns.  one was 3 one was 4.... Anyways bite was very difficult.  If  i was going out this weekend i would go to smiths if its possible.. cleaned 18 gills out of there on day three... probly should have only kept 16.  Amazing to see the fish in that clear of water.......Awsome
