Smitty Tow Bar help
« on: Jan 13, 2012, 12:41 PM »
I'd like to build a tow bar for a smitty sled and need some feedback. The tow bar needs to be easy to attach. I was thinking of i-bolts on the ski tips with backer washers. A tow bar that attaches by a snap/carabiner/locking link etc. Need some ideas how to attach conduit to the snap.

Slide it over rope and at the apex you can use another caribiner or a small shackle for a log chain. Make sense? Or to not use rope press the conduit in a vise and drill a hole for the caribiner to go through.

Yup- about the same- i'll take pic when I get home, but 2 peices of conduit, flatten each end, drill some holes - 2 small clasps and 2 eye bolts to the smitty, and the other end I bolted together and used a larger clasp and pin into the hitch of my sled  ;)  pics later for reference- inexpensive and works like a charm!
Why work when you can fish?<br />

Thanks 600RevX, I'll be using your tow bar. Others have questioned using the smitty sled behind an atv or snowmobile. Have you ran into any problems?

just built the smitty sled last weeekend- used that same tow bar on my fish trap guide behind my safari, but the bottom of the sled takes a beating even with runners- Hopefully this makes a huge difference, I built it very solid and to withstand a pretty good beating if need be-
