trout arent known for being active after dark,
even if they can see, they may not feed as much,
given if bait lands in front of them, they will probably instinctly bite,
walleyes on the other hand, theres a night time fish.

Trout can bite afterdark.  Brown Trouts are still pretty active.  I've occassionally caught rainbows after dark, but more like by accident.  Probably from the light from my lantern.

People that I've talked to that target trout at night, are fishing for browns and using glow-type lures.

your basic night time species, who have excellent night vision include walleyes, calico, and catfish...trout and northerns have fair NV. Have also caught alot of rock bass at night, too.

The only fish I've ever had luck with after dark is walleye. Not sure if it's vision or smell they use.

Caught bluegills after dark, and before daylite.  They are pretty timid but they will bite.

I went fishing tonight and I was still catching gills and crappy for three hours after dark just had a small led running to see my pole and charge the glow jigs. I fish out of a hard shack with a floor.

I do most of my fishing during the summer at dark and slaughter fish. They have different senses then we do. I have yet to try it on the ice though
