Eskimo Hubs
« on: Dec 13, 2011, 07:12 PM »
Anyone have experience with these? Last year I had some bad luck with a hub style that some plastic hardware broke. Anyhow, not wanting to bad mouth that manufacturer, I would like to try a different brand this year. Any info, suggestions appreciated

I had a pole problem with a Clam hub last year, they took care of me no problem. I have heard Eskimo is just as good.

I've had a QF3 for two years now. Pops up and back down, no problems. Nice unit.

The Eskimo is probably the best. Get the 949i insulated if you can find one.

I agree I have a QF3 and have loved from the first day I got it.  I have a friend that just got the FF949, and I have to say I am jealous of it.  The fishable area is so much more with that FF line.  If you have the $ I'd say go with the Eskimo FatFish line.

i have been fishing out of the hub style eskimos now for about 5 years and just finally this year I had to buy a new one.....I really like the portability as well as the size they are....they dont take up any room whatsoever and that works perfect for me since I have a car as my ice vehicle.....the new eskimos are great with 2 D-doors and larger windows in them they are way nice and the ice picks that come with them make it solid in the worst of winds....I had mine out the other night in some 40 mph winds and with the ice cleats in the corners as well as one to hold the wall from hitting me in the face it held there like there was no wind at all I had no problems sitting there at all.....I have had some bad experiences with the eskimo though I have had to spend my day chasing the thing across the lake and not catching any fish but that only happens when you dont use the ice picks in the corners.......

I use a QF3 and a QF6.  Both are great.  The only issue I had with the QF6 was that when I bought it from Fleet I took it home and let it sit in my garage for a few days - I then opened it up and a lot of the blackout paint on the interior side peeled off - its the "constellation" effect a lot of people talk about on here.  If you by any hub shelter product with that blackout paint on the interior side, be sure to open it up in a heated garage or in your living room AFTER it has warmed up for a day or two in the package.  I did that when I purchased my QF3 and didn't have a single problem with the "constellation" effect.

I haven't had any other issues with it.  I use the ice anchors and ropes to hold the hubs out in high winds - once you anchor that shack down you are SET!   And I love the Eskimo anchors - the ABSOLUTE best out there.  I recommend anybody with any other ice anchors than the Eskimo anchor to pitch 'em and go to the Eskimo website to order the Eskimo brand!
