moon phases
« on: Dec 16, 2011, 08:13 AM »
What is the best time to fish when you are trying to work around the moon. Last weekend we had a full moon and i could tell that the fishing was slow. Not sure if its the moon or just what everyone is saying that it really hasnt picked up yet. I know when there is a full moon during hunting it makes for a crap day. Just curious if it works with the fish to

I have the privilege of fishing with one of the Cabelas Pro Staff on occation and the has told me time and time again that 3 days before and 3 days after but never on a full moon. I found that to be true last weekend. I have never fished Ocean lake for that many hours in a row and not came up with something. Granted, Mat R. did relatively well last Saturday there on Ocean and I partly attribute that to landing right on top of the fish and partly luck (some people call it skill) ::)  That's just my opinion though.  ;D

Worst day of fishing beats the best day of working!

I've never been a solunar table guy, but IIRC Outdoor Life always had a solunal/lunar table in it's magazine. Mt 'droid phone and GPS also has the solar/lunar tables in it. Grab a copy of a Farmers Almanac, you can't do anything without consulting the sun and moon phases. Between sitting at home and fishing the waxing, waning, full moon phases, I'm fishing. The lunar phases effects everything on the Earth.

For me I just go when I can and enjoy the day out and if the fishing is hot than that is a bonus.  I have heard fishing just before and few days after a full moon the fishing for big fish can be good.  Here is a good solar table for anyone interested.  http://www.usprimetimes.com/stateselect.html  Hope this works and helps :)

We didn't do well on nocturnally feeding species IE: walleye and ling though. That seems to be the big difference with a full moon, night fishing suffers.

And it was skill.  ;DIt had absolutely nothing to do with accidentally setting up 24 tip ups over a school of perch the first day........ ;D ;D ;D

WIND is a way bigger factor than the moon. If the wind isn't blowing you better go fishing.

Moon phases, Barometric pressures, Winds, Pre storm, Post storm.  Heck if you stay home your never going to catch fish.

successful fishing comes from putting the time in.

I agree with everyone a bad day of fishing beats a good day of work or even do that list ur wife has for ya. I was just curious if the fishing on full moons was just like hunting. Turns out it kinda of is. But i would rather be on the ice anyday then at home or work. Just wish my bills could get paid by them selfs.

The wind affects the fishing?  or is that a Cheyenne joke?   Had a great morning on the ice the day before the full moon.  When I was a bachelor i paid a lot more attention to the lunar calendar, now I fish whenever I get the chance.  Time of day has been the biggest factor that I have notied

I have noticed around a full moon that if the deer are out fishing will be good. If not, they must have pigged out all night and are fast asleep. I have been wrong before...

Yeah a few days prior and a few days after are my choice days to hit the lake.

The moon rise and fall times are hot too!

I was catching plenty of walleye before the last full moon. Soon as the full moon hit the fishing turned off.
However, during the summer Night fishing is great for me. Guess I've never paid attention to it before.

It could just be a coincidence but my three biggest walleyes have been within a couple days of the full moon. Two through the ice, one during summer. However, the two through the ice were the only walleye I caught that day  ???
