Pack Basket that can handle a five gallon bucket?
«

I have been thinking about getting a pack basket for a while now and I was wondering if any of you wise hard water anglers know of one that could handle a five gallon bucket? I have never seen one that large and I wonder if such a thing even exists.
Cheers,

Why don't you just rig up some straps for a bucket? Seems like a waste to put a bucket in a basket?

An excellent question...
I am envisioning being able to put my vex in the bucket and then put both the vex and the bucket in the pack...once I get to where I want to fish, then I will take the bucket out of the pack, set up the vex and sit on the bucket.
I have been experimenting with trying to rig up some kind of bucket back pack...but sadly, my fabrication skills are not as advanced as my imagination. I have an old aluminum tubular back pack frame that I am currently trying to mount the bucket on...the problem is. Making a mount that is rigid enough for mounting and un-mounting.
Like I said...if I could only make what is in my head.
Everything would be perfect!

How about modifing a 55 gallon drum cover clamp, cut it down and shape it to fit the 5 gallon bucket and rivet it to the pack frame ?

Seems like you could take some padded straps off an old pack and bolt them to the bucket tp and bottom.

I have the pack basket from Jack Traps made from Ash. It fits a 5 gal bucket with room for rods on either side and underneath the 5 gal bucket too.
Here is the link to a picture of that pack.

You may have to call them to get a price on just the basket itself. I love mine.

I was wondering if an army duffel bag might be big enough. If it is, you could either cut it down in hieght, or leave the excess on top as a snow cover.

Could you modify an ATV bucket rack?
http://www.amazing-atv-machinery.com/atv-basket-products.html
I think they make similar ones for feed buckets, but we don't have feed stores 'round these parts so I know nuttin' 'bout them.
Also, if you're hiking in somewhere, how are you carrying your auger? We used to carry the auger on our shoulder, and hang a bucket from the handle. A pad for your shoulder and you're off!

Interesting idea about the feed bucket.
My plan is to put my vex in the bucket, that is why I want to strap it to my back. Sadly I am not strong enough to support the weight of the vex and the auger on my shoulder while hiking.
Thanks for the ideas guys.

1 Fishin bucket plus one kids backpack set of woven straps, some coathanger wire and voila! The Billy Bucket!!
Ans no screw holes below midway so if you need to, bait could be stored in it as well as gear.
