the flats
« on: Sep 12, 2011, 05:13 PM »
built a shack this year and im thinking about putting it on tobin lake, just wondering how far is the drive to the flats from shore and is there a place nearby that you can drive from? any info would be appreciated have never been there before, also are walleye frequently caught there or is it mostly BIG pike?

It can be really hit and miss getting out depending on mother nature.  ALOT of shacks have been ripped to shreds trying to get them off.  Most guys I know are using  portables and sleds.

hahaha tipupfrenzy knows nothing!  There is barley any walleye caught on the flatts, pike can be very hit or miss, havent had very good luck last two years, trail has been very poor, and I was thinking a portable may be the way I go this year.
Fishing is a tough job, but im willing to Tackle it!

Watched an episode of "fishing Canada" yesterday.  They were open water fishing Tobin, could not tell if early or late season but they were in cold weather gear.  They were targeting pike using quick strike rigs and smelt.  Man they caught some hogs.

Be careful putting a shack on the flats. If it snows a lot after it has been out there for a while it can be next to impossible to get it off. But if you want to catch monster pike, that's where you go. 30 lbs plus!
