GATCO ICE AUGER SHARPENER
« on: Nov 08, 2011, 07:35 AM »
ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BRAND OF AUGER BLADE SHARPENER? IT LOOKS SIMPLE & EASY TO USE. IT HAS A CLAMP SYSTEN WITH A STONE MOUNTED ON A BLOCK/ROD ARRANGENT THAT SLIDES IN A HOLE ON THE CLAMP, WHICH FORCES THE STONE TO REMAIN AT A SET ANGLE.

I have one that I use for my regular knife blades but I haven't yet tried it on my auger blades. I plan on giving it a shot. It works great for knives so I think as long as I'm careful it should be fine for auger blades.

just found one on ebay brand new old stock. w/the economy going the way it is, i am looking to do more and more for myself---and auger blades not needing to be shipped count pretty high as a  step towards self-sufficiency.

go it in the mail yesterday, and tried it on an old set of blades just to see....worked pretty darn well! I think if use it regularly after every other outing w/only the 25 degree angle, i probably wont ever need to buy another set of blades. I have two or three left so I am set, possibly for life!

Unless your blades are very soft you should only need to touch them up once or twice (the most) per season. The GATCO system is the best for auger blades.
