Grand Rapids area questions
« on: Dec 02, 2011, 06:02 PM »
I have a little brother who is attending Itasca college out in Grandrapids and I plan to go and visit him through out the winter and we had talked about hitting some hard water and was looking for any tips on locations and tactics. I usually target northern but would just enjoy catching some fish

alotta great lakes within a short drive of icc. for pike i'd try pokegama, split hand, or ball club. pokey can be tough to figure out in day but theres some bruisers in there. pannies, try jay gould, graves, or bass lake. graves & bass both have a 5-sunny limit but they're big! hope that helps a little

Always wear clean underwear, cuz ya never know when the paramedics are gonna have to cut your pants off.

Hey stephonesonwille, I graduate from ICC in 89, and I ice fished a lot up there. fishuhalik already mentioned some very good spots to try, another spot is above the saw mill. I caught lots of crappie and northerns above the saw mill.  There is a lake out by the high school  on the road that goes to Bigfork, if my memory is correct ;D its  a very good crappie lake caught a few northerns on it also..  There are a couple of pits with trout in them also. Your son might know where they are at. Split hand was one of my favorites, as well as above the saw mill.  Good luck and let us know how you did. :)
