I believe that they are worth the money (I don't own any),but my $8, 10 year old wood ones from my grandfather have had NO problems catching fish.  I guess its just were you want to invest your $.

I was ashamed to admit paying $29 for my traps (with line)!! I can't say I've fished all the brands of traps, but I've fished a few, and for the money I am real happy with my Heritage Lakers. If you look for them, you can find them for $19.95 on sale. I strongly believe they will outlast me as well.

I'm also a true blood New Englander and I have to fish cross type traps. All other types of traps just don't look right to me!

same here, fish heritage and bigbob jacks. i did however pick up 2 bd on ebay, they have an extremely light release, would be a better trap fishing salmon eggs during the winni derby than the cross traps. i dont believe that there is one trap that is best, cant see using a beaver dam with an 8 inch sucker for big lakers, it just wouldnt work. each of these traps have there place

Beaver Dams are good but for the money I buy the Frabils. They fish the same. Might be the difference between them lasting 25 years versus 15.

I will take the better price and 15 years of life.

I have one BD that was my dads. I also have several of the wood frabills.  To be honest I catch more fish on the Frabills. I don't know why, to me the only difference is the name and the price. I don't want to sound stupid but what exactly is the difference that makes a Beaver Dam better and worth three times as much money?

This is the 3rd season I have had my set and I really love them a lot. High quality, easy to use (even with gloves or mittens on) Worth the extra expense in my opinion, as they will last a long time. Cheers,Chris

Agreed, I'm sure BD's are great but I've hauled up 4lb bass with mono line tied to a milk jug as a trap/flag when times were tough. Buy what you can afford and maybe a couple spare and have fun out on the ice. Most locals 'round here build their own with broken hockey sticks, coat hangers, package strapping, and purchase plastic reels.
