white lithium grease.   same stuff i use on the front end and suspension on the snowmobile. won't freeze, cheap and user friendly.  small grease gun like for the roller tip on a chainsaw.

Unscrew the flag trip and slide the shaft out the bottom of the sleeve. Wipe off any old lube, I use the Frabill lube. It comes in a squeeze tube, I squeeze lube into the bottom of the sleeve and coat the spool rod generously. Slide it back together and wipe off the access. I check the spool play as I tighten it. I clean and lube mine before the start of the season and it makes a Huge difference in the number of fish caught for me !

I just re-lubed mine this past weekend with HT's Blu-Lube; works like a charm! They run like a fat kid to cake!!
Thanks,

Doug

Frabill for me also.
Clean out the tubes with some long pipe cleaners.  ;)2
I'm using polar style tip ups.
