small shanty questions & slideshow of 227 shacks!!
« on: Feb 10, 2012, 12:34 AM »
hey to everyone from nw ontario..Thunder Bay..its going down to minus 35 here tonite...nice for ice. im getting too old to sit ona bucket...so ive been looking around the last two years and trying to decide how to spend cash.
anyways......
i found this photo of a small shack last nite. to me it looks like an otter sled with a small shanty built on top of it. im wondering if anyone has any ideas about building something like this to pull behind a snowmachine.
the way this picture was taken makes it look a bit skewed...so it kinda makes it hard to judge properly. ive emailed the magazine but aint holding my breath to get any info on the pic, owner or anything else.

any takes on something like this? looks light and easy enuff to handle. great for one person. everthing would be close at hand. easy to keep warm.
what size sled is he using...? is that door a sliding door?
this is a great site for ice junkies...lmao. great to be here...thanks a bunch.

i right clicked on the photo...saved to my desktop, that way i could magnify the pic. i see a black sled with some sort of metal on the top of the tubwalls. there is snow on the bottom of the sled. and some minnows. its a tough photo to anylize.

searching the net last nite..and i found another photo along the lines ive been talking about. things may be getting a bit clearer...or more questions may be arising. take a look at this new pic. any thoughts??

Welcome aboard jonah !

I looked at the picture and it may not be a sled. I see snow for a floor where the bottom of the sled would be and it looks like a hole to the left.  ???

Looks like the doors on hinges and there's no sled under his feet. The thing that looks like a track for a sliding door is probably the top of the skis I'd guess.

Looks like a pretty sweet little rig, but a flipover might be easier to transport between different ponds and to move around once you're there.

If you're looking for something light and easy to haul, take a look at the Shappel DX3000.

I see a plywood floor and no tub. It kind of looks like it could be used for spearing also.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

May want to look at the Fish Trap Scout, Frabill Recon or the Shapell Rover 1.0. Or you can get a popup hub type shelter. They will break the wind and will hold in heat from a heater.

Agreed here you can pick up a 1 man flip over for pretty cheap used (craigslist or something).  I always see these for under 200 bucks around me for sale on craigs list.
