How close to full stock-up?
« on: Sep 04, 2011, 10:22 AM »
I know it depends where in the country we are located at but at what time do most suppliers, preferably
our sponsors fully gear up with their ice gear. I know where I live,( N. E. Indiana) I can almost bet all of the main items are out by Thanksgiving. I tried to buy wear bars for my Shappell Rover last year and noticed that they
sold out quick! So I would suggest any shanty accessory you may need to buy it early. I did find the wear bars on-line though so it worked out. I was on Shappell's website yesterday and noticed they were all stocked and
ready to go with parts (at least for the Rover 1.0). You fellas up north where you have longer ice season's,
when can you expect to see full shelf's?
Fish on!

Somwhere around mid-November everything is out. By the end of December, it's gone... ::)

Some places here in the Northeast as early as October, some as late as the week before Christmas and like Rebel said, it doesn't last long !!  :'(

Think a lot of it the past few years is the economy. They simply order enough to carry for early sales but are reluctant to gamble on solid sales all season and order more. Never used to be that way but am unsure if I'd want to get stuck with excess inventory these days either

Same around here (NWPA) We are lucky enough to have FishUSA here locally so that helps a ton. I was talking to a sales guy at both GM and a local Dicks and they both said they don't even start stocking shelve's for ice fishing until November and even at that I bet it's bare bones as far as selection.

I guess this is why so many buy online. I try to by local but sometimes it is hard to do when you can't find
what you want. :-\

I hear ya and the biggest thing that bother's me are clothing and boot sizes. I found a site that has a set of nice boots but some of the reviews say buy a size bigger, then another says ran big buy the next size down  ??? I dont want to go through all the hassles of returning anything. I bought a Blue Suit from a store and LUCKILY a size med. fits perfectly.

around here they do no favors for ice fishermen or Lady's. most close down and wait for spring. they all go to Florida or wherever its warm. i buy a lot every year and most comes from a little more north. i will be buying a lx-7 and it will come by mail. nothing here. good luck and may the ice be thick. i thank all the satisfied folks on ice shanty for the great info they provide.

Around here in MI, I notice that they stock up just after bow-season gets under way.  Usually the last week of October for most sport shops and mid November for the box stores.

bought new flags, and tip-up line.  But stores around here dont start getting ice fishing gear till mid-late December.  have to rely on a local shop for my jigging lines, lures, and terminal tackle.  Still dont know what the bigger stores are thinking, they stock it late, then dont get that much in. ??? ??? ???
