Hey I am a fishing freak!  My family w 4 yr old daughter and 8 yr old son might be moving from the Great Lakes to WY, and we are scared to death of this life changing prospect!  Any thoughts, words, warnings??  We are looking for work on the west side of WY (Pinedale area).......just looking for good advice.....is the area kid friendly?  Will they be able to adjust well?  Is the ice fishing good?  etc etc etc?  I tried this post before and could not find it again....I got 1 helpful email from a guy and was hoping to hear from him again!  Anyhow, Thanks in advance!

Western Wyoming is a wonderful place to live. Cost of living is high. Some jobs available but not as many as a few years ago. Lots of outdoor activities. Unlimited hunting and fishing opportunities. Good Schools or so I've been told, I have no school age children. Keep in mind its 100 miles to Wal-Mart. Long winters, short summers. Have deer in my yard almost daily, frequent moose and an occasional and mtn lion. Check out http://pinedaleonline.com/ for some good info on the Pinedale Area. Good Luck to you and your family.

Cost of living is definitely better on the E side of the state :o As for kid friendly and family friendly I have had a blast with my boys in WY since moving here a few yrs ago. I would also like to add there are far more warm-water fish on the E side of the state @)

What profession are you looking for work in btw?
        Get the kids fishing!!

no matter where your at in wyoming it is a outdoor friendly state. if you and your family loves the outdoors you will love it here. winters can be really hard because they are long cold and windy in most places, not everwhere though. this is not a "big city" state, some young people have trouble adjusting to life in wyomings small towns, but if they say there isn't anything to do here, they would be wrong, i know a lot of young would rather play video games than take a walk or go fishing. as far as ice fishing or any fishing for that matter, wyoming has world class fisheries here. you wont be disappointed. wyoming is one state that you can still get a job easily, depending on what you are willing to do. good luck on your future endeavors.
Remember what grandpa would always say. " Where's the beer? and you call yourself a fisherman!"

Also it doesn't hurt to have a snow machine or a 4 wheeler for the ice fishing season.  Don't be bringing too many UPers out here though, I don't think  our deer and elk herds can handle it.

Buffalo (in the NE) is a kid/family orriented town (around 4500 people) and a great place to live. Lots of holiday parades, activities, etc. Weather is pretty mild for WY. Bighorn Mtns are out the back door. 5 large reservoirs within 3 hrs (DeSmet, Tongue River, Keyhole, Bighorn, Boysen). 1.5 hrs to North Platte river in Casper, 2 hrs to the Bighorn river in Worland, 1.5 hrs to Bighorn river in MT, 2 hrs to Yellowstone river in MT. Walmart and Home Depot are as close as I want them, 35 miles in Sheridan. Cost of living isn't bad, housing cost has come down some. Work in the oil and gas fields has slowed down but there are still jobs. The Uranium industry is gearing up for some hiring. Some friends of ours moved in from MI about 5 years ago and love it. The biggest thing they had to get used to was how far you have to drive to get to anywhere/anything. 70 miles for the walmart grocery run is part of living in WY; just admire the purtty scenery and watch out for the damn antelope. Good luck.

The Uranium industry is gearing up for some hiring.

After the situation in Japan I don't think the uranium industry will be doing a lot of hiring!

Canada will still have a lot to do with the uranium. As far as moving to Wyoming there is no better place to live IMO. I was born and raised in Buffalo and wouldn't know what to do with out being 10 minutes from the mountains. I have two boys of my own now. I am teaching them the same thing that my father taught me about the outdoors. The people are friendly for the most part and it is just a wonderful place to live. Fishing, hunting, and all the outdoors you can handle
If you are going to cry be quick about it. Then get back to fishing.

It took me just shy of 3 months in one of the many ghettos of Phoenix to realize that Wyoming is amazing. My only qualm is winter isn't long enough... lol
