I heard rumours that Ghost Lake had some big ones, but I still can't believe it.

@ NGI, I know where your coming from, the lack of report and the condition of the ice and snow makes one question it. The guy posted a reply and then deleted it for some reason that said his brother caught it using a white tube jig and smelt after he fell alseep in a lawn chair late morning, and the rod doubled over in the holder. This also makes it seem like sheer luck haha which just adds to the WTH factor. In my opinion, the shoreline looks like ghost, the fish is built exactly like a ghost laker, and its what he posted so why not go with the story! Its a helluva fish for ghost

of course it was luck, lucky we were in the right area at the right time.  we drilled 6 holes around the breakwater between 6 and 30 FOW, about 200 ft from the old camper shack.  We saw fish on the sonar in the 9fow hole, where there's small fish, there's big fish.  I can imagine all the big lakers cruise in and out of that area.

It was about 2, small white tube jig w/whole smelt.

Critter is right, I deleted the post.

I would like to go again this weekend, but I'm concerned how quickly the bottom ice is rotting.

guys just wanted to let you know there are huge lakers in Ghost. My Dad has a 31 pounder hanging on his wall and my brother got a 28 pounder out of there. They caught those 20 years ago down by the cliffs down at the west end. .My Dads 91 now doesn't fish much any more. they were both caught in March just when the ice starts to rot. I'll take a pic and i'll put it in, so you boys can check it out. they use to catch alot of those back then. I'm sure their alot more larger ones in there.

Although my laker was caught in August, it still was a nice 18Lber.  so .. I do know that they exist  :-)

I agree, sorry didn't mean to disreguard the great fish you got. I haven't heard anyone up to you catching a fish that large for along time. I just wanted to let the boys know, like you've shown, there are great fish in there. I tip my hat to you. I've never caught one like that.

I'm glad to hear other's have caught some nice lakers.  It's nice the lake is so close to Calgary.  I know where I'll be all summer.

Don't waste your time on Ghost once the ice is gone.  I must have spent 500 hours on that stinking lake.

Finally came to my senses and fish Minnewanka for lakers.d

Yes ghost lake laker. My dad use to go around this time of year when the ice was getting alittle rotten around the rock island at the west end. Great big smelt at least 7-8"s double hook extending out the head of fish lay it on the bottom. Lakes will run and then turn fish around and swallow head first. Then you nail them.
