My neighbor stopped by and he said he thinks he has a ball-joint fork and he also has torches

Both suggestions made by us knuckleheads on IS. Becareful trying to "run it off." You might have made it worse by binding the shaft with the burr.

Good luck!

I've also been thinking of calling Jiffy and running it by them. They will probably suggest sending the whole thing back to them for repair....SHIPPING=$$$$$$$. I can keep messing with it but I don't want to break the cast gearbox or bugger the shaft up beyond repair. I usually use my hand auger anyway until the ice goes beyond 8" thick so I could wait a month for turnaround if I act now.  Like I said... I hate to sell it, and I don't want to send it back if I don't have to but maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and do so. What do you guys think????...WK

If you protect the gear case with a block of wood and work gently, you will not break anything.  It is a simple burr that needs to be filed off.  You can do it yourself without wasting any time or money.  Just be careful.

FOR THE TIME AND AGGREVATION. SEND IT BACK
Have em go thru it and give it a tune up.
Ya never know, the companies name is on the line.

If ya break the gear box, your screwed.

Belly up and remember its better than cutting 60 holes in a day by hand. I really don't mind the hand auger early in the season.
BUT 10-14 inches of ice gets old real quick and the timing might be great now than midseason!

I don't see how their name is "on the line"....I'm the guy that re-tapped the hole and used a larger allen bolt. I'm sure they would be glad to have me send it back as that equates into $$$$$ for labor and $$$ for parts, not to mention $$$$ at today's shipping costs. I got on there web today and looked up their #'s so I'm gonna give them a call and explain everything and find out if they'll give me a "guesstimate" on cost. If it's gonna be over a hundred bucks, I may just live with it....I don't think I'm gonna get that drill off the shaft without a serious headache...and it still runs fine the way it is. I'll keep you all posted.....WK

I'd agree WANNA, since there was a "modification" made by the user, they would more then likely charge you no matter. Although the initial problem may have been due to their fault, since an attempt was made to fix the problem which resulted in the product being altered...well you get the jist. I don't think their name is on the line, just maybe some good customer relations if they'd fix it for free. I'd still try the puller with a piece of wood. If it doesn't work, yet you can still use the thing, I'd live with it then. Just be sure to at least have a hand auger for a back-up in case the two decide to seperate on their own while your out on the ice  :) Just hope it doesn't happen just as it breaks through and the dang thing decides to go to the bottom.

Thanks Pikeking!!! Thats's a tempting offer! I haven't done much with it since my last post. I figure I'll call jiffy next week if the neighbor and I aren't able to do something with it over the weekend and that depends on if I can pin him down for an evening, he's a busy guy. But I'll definitely keep your offer in mind.....WK
