Help on fishing Bantam lake
« on: Mar 02, 2011, 09:26 PM »
Im new to Bantam and was wondering where to fish it and what for , will head out this weekend sometime.
Fishing is a sport in which thinking is involved it is the covenant between nature and man, mother and son. Through fishing only can we recreate the link that has been tarnished throughout the existence of the modern era of mankind. Fishing is the answer yet people ignore it and consider it a "stupid" thing to do. What do these people do instead? They stare in front of color changing boxes. Is that life? My life is fishin

Pike fishing on Bantam is closed as of the first day of March.  If you can find deeper water in the lake, mostly at the North end, you can get into some panfish.  If you fish shallow you will get Bass, Pickeral, and Pike.  You can't target Pike.  That means if you get caught with 9 inch suckers as bait, you will get your b*lls broke.  But, if you happen yo catch a pike which took your shiner, there is nothing that can be done to you.

Here are a couple of good Bantam maps. If you get a good road map off of Google maps you should be able to find the boat launches, They are the easiest access points.

Here is a link to that contour map, you canprint it out.

lots of ice right now...the shallows aren't producing well....look for deeper water. The tips of point folly and deer isle are a good start. And like mentioned before you aren't supposed to target pike, that being said....a big largemouth would take down a 6-8 inch sucker  ;D.

Could park at the boat launch in Morris. In south bay. East shore road of Rt. 109. That launch is now closed to the public in the summer but anyone could park there during ice fishing season. Could park at the lot across from south bay on route 209. Could park at point folly (may need 4wd, not sure how much melted). Take North Shore Road off of Rt 209 and you'll the parking area for Pt. Folly will be on your right.

Perch rocks is a good area for all species (not just perch). Good pike spot in the summer when the lake starts to warm up.

Check out that depth map...and try and find the dropoffs into deeper water. Not too much deep water in the lake if you could find the drop offs into deeper water you got a good shot at crappie or the elusive white perch.
