Please ?? Pine lake conditions ??
« on: Feb 26, 2011, 07:37 PM »
I am taking a friend fishing for the first time tomorrow. He wants to hit Pike.. we were thinking of 1-1.5 hrs from calgary and spo Pine lake fits the bill....
Can someone please respond to this post and just let me know what pine lake is like right now? I have not seen one post on it this season so far and I am concerned we should be pointing a different direction instead.
Hate wasting fishing time driving to something that is not fishable.

thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

was talking to one of the locals who was taking his shack down for the season. there was a tourney at pine lake with over 60 people fishing. a single 4 oz fish was caught.
Seems that Pine lake is not a place to go. We went there and planted ourselves  in the local shanty-ville..... between 8 am and 2 pm did not see anything on the fish cam, nor did we have any bites. There is a huge spawn  of the small freshwater shrimp in the go though. Drilled one hole and must have pulled about a 1000 ( without trying to exaggerate) of the breeding little critters up ontop of the ice.

Pine lake is now off my curiousity list.... NEXT!

Wow, that used to be a great lake for pike, and supposedly perch as well. Must have had a bad algae bloom this summer or something.

If I  didn't go to new places and check them out... I would only ever go to the Crowsnest Pass .. that's too far of a drive.. I like to have many options

What i said was that "if i never tried  new places I would only ever fish in the CNP" .. because i started all my fishing there from the age of ummm... 4?
It was said many times... if I wasn't at school, and I wasn't home.. i was fishing. I have since tried many places ( including pine) and learned lessons from  these places.... in the case of Pine lake.... I won't be going back too soon.
So, I haven't gone down to the Pass in  a few years... I typcially do my open water fishing there. Was looking at going to Beauvais lake this year but  heard that there was a chlorine issue with the lake due to some problems as Camp Impeesa ( the cub scout camp I used to go to).

I would definitely entertain going to beaver mines, or emerald lake, but I would need some guidance from some of my old classmates I think before i went down that way.
expecially if it were an over night trip.

Pine lake ehh. I have spent lots of hours on pine and there are some tactics to making it worth while  . The eastern shore has some dramatic dropoffs. The other thing is the pike roam around about 6 feeet below the ice or higher i've found. The perch aren't biting much since there are so many freshwater shrimp. My best lure has got to be an airplane jig tipped with a minnow. Good luck there r some big pike in there
