swivels
« on: Oct 26, 2011, 05:07 PM »
how many of you guys use swivels above spoons or jigging raps? i know it helps with line twist. i havent used swivels before on ice and have caught lots of fish on spoons but only caught one fish all last ice season on a rap. i think its time to tie in a swivel.

Same here. Get a good (smallest you can find) barrel swivel, tying about 2 feet up. Then I use the the "No-Knot Fast Snaps" to attach jigs/lures (http://www.cabelas.com/swivels-snaps-clevises-knot-fast-snaps-2.shtml).

Using forceps to hold the snaps helps when changing jigs/lures.

i like to use the smallest spro swivel they make.
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

also saw a kool trick of them using those fast snaps on the bottom of their jiggin raps n puppet minnows so they can change hooks or or pull the treble off and then slide a minner head on the shaft of the treble so it wont fall off and when the fish hits it theres no way they wont get hooked

For sure !!  Most of my local lakes are stocked with them (hybrid and pure strain) .... Plenty in the rivers and some creeks..
PA State Record — 54 lb. 3 oz.
