waramaug swim
« on: Feb 27, 2011, 02:55 PM »
decided to kill a few hours on waramaug today
got there kinda late , about 9 was gonna try a new spot
on the way out seemed great 3" of snow made 4 good walking as i crossed the main lake
i could feel the top layer of ice sinking figured no big deal just a few inches of slush between
the top and the real ice.
anyhow new spot started with 2 perch before i was done setting up 1 chunk
nothing esle for 3 hours so i packed it up to head for an old standard,
across the lake.
in the middle straight out from arrow point i feel the same "soft" ice,
and it broke, a lot, "splash" probably 8" of WATER no slush scared the bajesus out of me
hard ice underneath but i was soaked to my knees and called it

That will get the heart pumping for sure glad you didn't go in the drink.

We had some of the same ice yesterday..
Very nerve racking. As I would walk in certain areas, you could hear the hollowness beneath it and then would come that sound!!!
The crack of the ice!
Send shivers down your spine and a flash of heat through your body.
But like you said, there was plenty of good ice below the slush too. Believe me I know how you felt :o
No, I mean I REALLY REALLY LOVE TO FISH!!!
