Salmon yes sure do. Your hunting bow will work but the sights would just get in the way. I picked up a bow on craigs list for $45 the AMS kit was $120 though. If you found a recurve that would do nicely. They allow you to snap shoot, meening you don't need to come to full draw. There are alternatives to the AMS kit that are less money. They are basicly a line spool attatched to the front of the bow. Lakeshore has it instock. It is poaasble to put on waders and fish the marshes or simply walk the banks. Spring spawns are your best bet for on foot pursuits.

As a kid I made recurve bows out of pvc my dad had laying around or saplings. They weren't any where near the accuracy I had with my hunting bow.  I will have to check out the AMS kits because I could build one for my bow and even get my old sight and use it for water shooting.

I don't use a site. Shoot instinctively, you aim low of the fish. The distance varies depending on the angle. I just look down the arrow. Quite sure you'de be happy with the AMS kit.

Good point with looking down the arrow Im used to shooting more than 30 feet.  What makes it so good?

Well what about mounting a fishing reel to yoru stablizer and when you shoot you open the bail and just as if you were casting a pole the line unravels from the reel when you shoot the arrow?

You could go homemade. Cut up an old rod attach a bolt and mount to bow. The big danger is an arrow going 3' out and the line wraping something. You can imagine the snap back. The AMS is always open you need to pull a trigger to engage the real up.

Yeah I didn't think about the snap back.  If I had some old banged up arrows with 15 lb line the line would snap before the arrow would try to snap back or get redirected enought to be dangerous.

The arrows are solid fiberglass and the line is like #400 dacron. Try pulling an arrow out of a log by a string.

Pulling an arrow out of a log in general is a B*tch.  I know people who cary chisels with them to cut the arrow out.
