leaders
« on: Jan 13, 2005, 11:08 PM »
I got a bunch of leaders for differant species of fish for my tipups and they can cause quite a  mess as they take up a lot of room in the tackle box my question is how do you guys store your leaders for later use?

Buy one of those rubber tube looking things that are made for storing worm harnesses. They are segmented to keep each seperate and have a little rubber hook to hook your swivel or loop end on. Then just wind up the leader and bury the hook in the rubber. Holds them slick as can be.

I pre-tie my leaders, too:  barrel swivel / line (4-6 ft) / hook.

I then stuff them in individual ziplock sandwich bags, but there is a trick to this. Put the hook end in the baggie first, then push the line into the baggie - a foot at a time, but leave the barrel swivel end hanging out, zip the bag shut, label the bag with line weight & hook size.
It will not be tangled. Kind of like the fireman's trick of stuffing a rope in a bag for use in rescue situations.
I use a swivel as a method to quick change from mono/flouro leader to steel leader and to minimize line twist.

P.S. This sucks - 60 degrees in CT yesterday!!!

Great tip JeBa - I'll use the same baggie method for storing my 2-hook pickerel rigs (AKA - Crappie rigs), leaving the top swivel outside the bag.

Another idea is to use those 4ft floatie-tubes used in the swimming pool.  Cut to length, & stick the hook right in the foam.
