Lakeland Provincial Park and Cold lake
« on: Feb 27, 2011, 10:04 PM »
Went up to try our luck at some fishing this weekend at Pinehurst, Touchwood, Spencer and Cold Lake. Needles to say the Lakeland lakes were DEAD. Went to Touchwood all day Thursday and caught nothing, and up to Spencer and Pinehurst Saturday and only managed one small walleye from Spencer and one 5lb Pike out of Pinehurst. Pinehurst didn’t have a single other person fishing it on Saturday other than us and I’m not surprised because the fishing was dead slow. Considering there is only 6-8in of snow on the lakes there was hardly any tracks of any kind at all out on the lakes; it doesn’t look like anyone has been fishing any of these lakes this year.

Cold Lake was a different story. Went there on Friday with critter and caught about 20 lakers with one weighing in at 10lbs 10oz. Went again Sunday but fishing was significantly slower with only 3 lakers but managed to get a real nice one. The beast weighed in at 15lbs 1oz.

The lakes up there have been pretty touch-and-go this year. Weather may have something to do with it.

Nice fish, same spot as the first day?   Man saturday was nuts, iced at least 30 lakers, biggest 15 lbs, three from 10-12lbs, and tons from 3-9 lbs. Twice i lost a bigger fish, and a medium sized one immediately grabbed the jig right after, they were in a feeding frenzy. Slowed by noon, but still a bite every 15 minutes. Quit when my arms were sore. New spot, will show you.

Three of us hit Jackson Lake on Saturday with my quads.  The single rider made out well, but I was doubling my buddy and pulling a sled. Could not get out very far.  Just past the first island.  Only fished from about 2:30 to 6:00.  As usual, caught a lot of jacks.  They were just nailing anything.  They would hit one hook, come off and smash the next one.  Even had one hit mine and then hit my buddies on the way up.  Only one walleye, but we were not in any hot spots since the snow was too deep.

Beauty lakers - well done!

Cheers.
