Another Vexilar 22 question!
« on: Feb 12, 2011, 07:40 PM »
OK, I wanted to start a new thread as pertains to a specific problem I think I am having with my new 22. I have suspected something has been going on the last few times I have had it out but today, pretty well confirmed it.
First, I would note the battery was at full charge when I started today. Had my ducer under the bottom of the hole. Fishing in about 15 feet of water. Set it on the 2nd position and started in normal strength with the gain at the lowest level. Here is the problem, I had marks, mostly green showing all the way from the top of the water column down to about 10 feet. It just looked like I was sitting to close to another fish finder with a bunch of interference but there was no other fish finder on the pond I was fishing. Didn't seem to make much difference between the 3 transducer angles. Couldn't find my jig. Just looked like a big mess of interference. I tried pushing the different frequency settings but nothing changed. I thought maybe it was my line so I pulled up my line and it made no difference, still a bunch of interference like readings showing up. I was getting very frustrated with it and drilled different holes throughout the pond to see if I could find a difference elsewhere. I could not. When I put the machine on low power mode, it looked better but couldn't make out my jig. Tried it on the zoom mode, no difference. Switched back to normal mode and looked like a bunch of interference again! Almost like you had the gain turned all the way up but I had it all the way down! I finally pretty much gave up and just started fishin but left it on the whole time. I would say about a half hour or so later, it started looking normal!!  ??? Well, this confused me allot. I put it on normal mode and NO interference showing. I could see my jig. Things were like they were suppose to be! I am at a loss as to what to think about this. I had a similar thing happen a couple of other times this year with it. On one pond I just gave up and left as I had never fished that particular pond before I thought I might have weeds showing everywhere. Now, I think I know better. Guess I will write Vex and see if they have any ideas but this seems really strange to me. Thanks for any help.

Seen others post the same problems just don't remember where I saw it, I think faulty transducer was the cause, Vex seems to be having trouble with some of them.

I have had the green lines from time to time, but none that lasted very long, maybe a minute or two was all. It almost has to be the tri-ducer and the crystals inside. I try to make sure there is no ice or anything on the bottom of the ducer also.

Ya, I have been to the Vexilar web site and have tried to research the problem, it soes sound like there may be a transducer problem with some of the tri-beams. I may have to give them a call tomorrow. It is just strange to me that after a half hour or so, it starts running like it should. Almost like it has to be warmed up first!  ???
