Time for the extension already
« on: Feb 10, 2011, 07:14 PM »
Got out for an hour or so the AM. Put the auger to the bars and then puched the rest of the hole with my chisel. Drilled the second hole and got almost down the bars and the hole filled with water and slush. It created quite a suction and my Model 30 just powered through it!  I am hoping that the rest of the north country lakes are not like this one!  It is way too early to be adding my extension!

With the combination of the snow ice and slush and black ice at the bottom, I went to the handlebars yesterday out on Paugus ! It definitely caught me by Suprise, I really didn't think that was gonna happen this year !

I'm surprised too.
I plan on cruising around winni this weekend starting today and was feeling too comfortable about it knowing what I saw for ice two weeks ago before the snow.
Now that it is set up, I feel a little better.  Still gonna wear the lifejackets and drill as I go, but feel a lot better to read this post.

Good plan NB, I bet I drilled over 50 holes checking on the way out yesterday, it's not consistant, at least out on Paugus, Winnisquam and Winnipesaukee ! I checked a couple of spots on Winnisquam and found less ice then what I cut last week ! I measure the base ice, the most I've found was 9" the least was 4" and I'm glad I walked out there to check that spot ! Good luck out there and stay safe !

Nope but it does come complete with hockey helmet and face mask. Black eyes are not very attractive!

I did live there. Right across the street from Chiefbush as a matter of fact. However, I did not think Berlin had an all women's team when I moved there. Unfortunately, the boyfriends of these women thought otherwise.  :'(

 :o :o :o :o

I have 1.5+doz suckers and 5+doz bait fish. We plan on tearing into a laker or two tomorrow.  As long as the wind holds off, I will have Laine parked right on top of the table in 40' of water watching the 1/2 mile string of tip ups to the north and to the south covering that "Laker Highway!"

Sound like a Sweet set up Ben, Good luck tomorrow and I hope all of you get to limit out on them ! We saw some nice lakers and a Nice Rainbow on the camera, today but they were too busy ridin herd on the Hundreds of Smelt that they were pushing along the bottom !!   Check out this reading on the fish finder, some people think there are no Smelt in Winnipesaukee, I beg to differ, we saw Thousands of them today on the showdown and the camera ! :woot: That thick bar at 15' is her bucktail, the rest is all smelt, that school took over 3 minutes to go by !!

I see large schools of smelt everytime I go to winni. Sometimes it takes four or five minutes to swim by on camera , even in forty feet of water.
There must be a twelve step program for this

Well, DD I guess you were right! I helped some friends move a house yesterday, and we had to drill the holes before putting the house over them! The model 30 wouldn't have reached!!!
I might be buying an extension for next year. Until then I guess I'll chisel the rest out.

ossipee this weekend was getting there, my nils hand auger was maybe 8 inches to go in a couple spots, i think its a 48 inch auger, didnt measure it. thankfully most of the ice is soft enough to still use the hand auger.
