Barometer better luck rising or falling?
« on: Feb 17, 2011, 12:30 PM »
The barometer has been falling for a couple of days now, do find you have better luck when it is rising or falling?

My luck has more to do with the mood of my wife and nothing to do with the barometric pressure.
I'm not as good as I once was but I am good once as I ever was.

Falling monday night I was out fishing you would drop the jig down it would get about 4 or 5 feet off bottom and the gills would just fly up and meet in at like 2 or 3 feet look at it for a second and eat it. Same deal last night.

This one has been discussed at length numerous times, but I think general consensus was (And I agree) they seem to hit better on a downswing of pressure, but not when it bottoms out and stays. My opinion in a nutshell is that either way..when it's on the "swing"...up or down, is when they seem to put the bite on for me. A steady calm hasn't shown me much luck.  :)

I agree with Rebel, I know in the summer when fishing Cats on the Missouri if you got a storm brewin' the fishing is gonna get crazy. Seems to hold true with a snowstorm blowin' in also. imo.

I find my best success comes when the pressure has remained stead for a few days, one exception is in summer when a storm is coming in.. not sure why but it seems to get them biting until the rain starts.

My opinion has always been that the bite is on when the pressure is moving.  if it's steady for a couple days with little to no movement the fish seems to play the same game.  up or down!

I believe when the barometric pressure moving fast ether way the bite is on and if it"s moving up and down quickly bites even better as for a few days of steady pressure how long do you think you could go with out eating  ;)
