Can anyone tell yet?
« on: Dec 28, 2011, 06:27 PM »
Can anyone tell us of their "secret spot" with safe ice yet. yeah we all know go north to dacks. But when its a five hour drive one way, it sure would be nice to have a destination so it dosent turn in to a full day of surching for ice. Hopeing you guys got your itch out and can help us out  in western ny.  Any help i greatly appre., and I would return the favor around western ny (if its ever gona get ice).

Head to the higher elevations.  In western NY that means heading south into the southerntier hills and looking for smaller bodies of water.  Won't list names, but there are many smaller ponds on state forests that hold bass, pickeral and panfish.  Fishing isn't necessarily the greatest, but you will catch fish and can get a 'quick fix' if you need one before the larger waters are safe....

I know the drive sucks not knowing where to go, but I really can't blame the guys for not divulging their spots. I made that mistake a few years ago and the influx of anglers destroyed the small lake I fish. Best bet is to check with local tackle shops near where you want to head. Best of luck to you.
I thank God for everything in my life. But I especially thank God for ice.
