Black Ice hub style shanty
« on: Feb 02, 2011, 03:06 PM »
Wondering if anyone on here has a Black Ice brand hub style shanty and what they think of them.  Are they the same as Glens hubs?

I have a Black Ice 1 man hub shanty.Just got it yesterday.Set it up in the house, but haven't used it yet as I'm snowed in.I think they are made by the same company that makes the ones for Glens as they look the same and have the same features. This is my first hub style shanty so I'm no expert on them, but it seems to be well made.

Have the Black Ice 3-4 man. Perfect for just me! maybe 1 other. Had a piece of it split. set it back up at home and wrapped it with elec. tape. No problem.
Had it for 4 years, even it the wind, just tie it down and kick snow around the base. I'll only change to a flip-over if I get a machine.

I have the four man one and love it you really dont half to heat it with a heater unless its really cold out cause the black soaks up the suns and heats the inside real nice.

have the same one as the pic...but definatley use the anchors...gust of wind might leave you exposed very quickly...had mine out a few weeks ago and it was windy...had snow on skirt...all 4 anchors in on bottom as well as one on the side were wind was coming from and one of the side popped in from the wind blowing around it...no harm...but put in another few anchors right after that.  Just bought big lag bolts with fender washer to use as anchors (puttin in with cordless drill)...heard it is easier than what comes with the hut

With the open ice floor and a heater going, I think you will always have fogged windows. Could try some antifog glass cleaner???  Otherwise maybe just cut the windows out??   I always have fogged windows.  I just wipe them when I want to look out.  Pain in the behind when fishing tipups.

aren't your windows just velcrod in like mine  ??? I don't have to much trouble of mine fogging up just open the top vent and a crack in the door and all is good for me

There's a product called "RAIN-X" that's made to put on car windshields to repel rain....but also keeps windows from fogging up.  Available in most auto supply stores or at most car washes.  The fan will also help.

I know a guy that rubs a little dish soap on a towel on them. The soap film stops the condensation, he tells me.
