Fairbanks/Eielson Area Lakes - Ice status?
« on: Nov 05, 2011, 02:42 AM »
Fellow Icemen, I'll be up in the Fairbanks area on business 7-11 November.  I'm thinking of doing some ice fishing while up there, if ithe ice is safe.  Any intel on ice conditions in the local lakes there?  Thanks much.

I've been down in the States for a little over a week, but it was close when I left.  I'm sure there's 4"-5" on them by now.

The measurements this last week were between 2 inches and 7 inches depending on the location, Harding Lake was at 2 inches with areas in the center still open.

Planning a trip for this next Friday at Quartz Lake. should be good to walk on...not driving.

Thanks for info.  I'll be checking Quartz today and will post the ice conditions tonight.

Fished Quartz today, had the entire lake to myself.  Solid clear ice, 6-7 inches from boat ramp, towards right side area where the AK Fish & Game usually install their rental ice fishing huts (which are not there at this time).

My bad, need to make a correction -- I fished Birch, not Quartz.  Brain was still frozen last night when I logged in....I know I was on Birch, but probably was thinking Quartz.  And yes, the fish were biting on shrimp (I put a few back in, but took 3 nice rainbows for dinner tonight).
