Our trip to East Grand got all messed up...we are headed to our camp in Eustis instead.  Never ice fished up there, could tell you a 100 places to fly fish. Me and the Mrs are planning on trying the chain of ponds by the Natinis camp ground.  Can we park there?  I'm all set for Salmon and Togue, do I need to change back to Salmon and brookies?  best place for bait or should I bring some smelts and suckers with me. Short notice and would appreciate any heads up you got.  Trying to make a crappy situation better.

  • Thats why they call it fishin, not catchin........
I went up there for a day trip last season, we parked right on the main road alongside the Natanis pond. Was slow fishing for us but we did land a few short salmon and had a flag or two along shore. We brought our own bait. You could pm Smeltslayer and ask about bait. He may be able to help. Luck to ya!

you'll need a canoe or small boat for most, but little Jim of King and Bartlet road, tea pond (camps on the water), sarmpus fall (spelling off) on RT 27 north of the pines is a stream you can wade in. just to name a few.

Try setting a trap just below the dam, where it dumps into the Dead River.  Should be plenty of parking this time of year.  I heard if you hook a nymph on your trap you will be good to go.   :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Does the Pines have the cooler of singles in the winter?  Just wondering.

I heard the fly fishing in Eustis is not good at all, though.  The the wind turbines have upset the balance of atmospheric pressure or something like that.  ??

You could try Bugeye, it's artificials only and there are some real nice brookies in there. When you're up there, check on my camp, will ya? It's the one on the right ;D
I've got the itch... No, not that one. It's the good kind.
It's pronounced "fay-len" (the x's are silent)

no tips for ya but that is one of my favorite places up there.  My wifes family spends a week or so up in Eustis every year camping and we love it.  Just started fly fishing last year, cant wait to go up there and try some spots Ive seen the last few years.

My wife's family has a camp on chain of ponds right at the narrows. The ice fishing can be pretty good right there after the narrows where it drops off. Funny bugeye story, some of my buddies were bird hunting right below bugeye one of those days it rained hard this fall and found a brook trout (about 15 inches) in a puddle right in the middle of the bird cover. Dead serious. It had "washed out" from bugeye! Would love to share some fly fishing spots with you too if you want to PM me, I'm sure together we know most of the good one's but maybe we each have one or two we don't hit as often that we could share.

The narrow thoroughfare between natanis and long is pretty good salmon fishing, also you can pick up smelts at Mikes bait in New Vineyard.

Used to ice fish the chain of ponds a lot. The spot I liked the best was great for jigging brookies, and some nice ones at that. There was a road just off 27 that would bring you down to the lake but was never plowed. We could bust through the snow bank if it wasn't too big but I would not recommend parking along 27. Used to set up a portable and jig. We were only in 4-5 feet of water and you could literally watch the brookies come in and hit the jig. Pretty cool watching them. Had a really bizarre thing happen to us there as well. It was snowy day, no wind and quiet as can be. All of a sudden we were being attack by partridge! Not really attacked but buzzed. One after another they came flying out of trees and across the lake. Had to have been 30+ birds we saw that day. Never seen anything like it.
