Skirts on a Clam Scout?
« on: Mar 05, 2011, 08:06 AM »
Just wondering how anyone anchors their bottom skirts on their Scout when there is NO snow on the ice to put on them? The other day I was using my Scout on a lake that had absolutely no snow on it, just bare ice.The skirt was letting wind blow right through the hut.Usually when there is snow, I pack it around the skirt in several places to keep the drafts out. I kinda remember here on IS someone carried some type of weights to hold the skirt down.Any idea? Thanks in advance.

I purchased some bicycle tire innertubes, cut the filler tube off and filled them with DRY sand and tied the ends shut. They work great and don't take up too much space.

I had the original Pro that is now the scout.  I put light conduit in the sleeves on the side and stitched them closed.  When I flipped the shack back they fit perfectly along the other poles.  This worked for me and only took a few minutes to install.

Now that right there is a really good idea!

I have the first generation scout and I also had a sleeve stiched into the bottom edge.  I used 3 pieces of electrical cable about 3/4 inch.  Its been in for a bunch of years and has worked great.  Probally cost a fortune now with the cost of copper.  bike tubes and sand would be best.  Flexible to.

I pull them inside and put my feet on them. Keeps the wind out and keeps the floor pipe down on the ice instead of lifting up when a gust blows. Every time I put snow on the skirt it ended up freezing down, and it's quicker and easier to put your feet down than kick snow all over it.

I lay my auger on one side of it, and drill a couple extra holes on the outside and use the slush from them to put on the skirt.
